Occupational Health Advisor

We are currently recruiting for an Occupational Health Advisor to be based at Glasgow- Prestwick area.

In this role, you will be responsible for delivering comprehensive Occupational Health (OH) services, including Case Management, Medical Assessments, Health Surveillance, Wellbeing, and Health Promotion Services.

 


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice, support, and guidance to managers and employees on sickness absence, workplace environment, risk assessments, stress management, and return-to-work processes.
  • Conduct health surveillance and assessments, including fitness-to-work evaluations for safety-critical roles.
  • Maintain accurate OH records and reports.
  • Advise managers and HR on staff capability in relation to health and work responsibilities, in line with company policies.
  • Support managers and supervisors in conducting health-related risk assessments.
  • Stay updated on Occupational Health legislation and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with mandatory training, including OH-specific and company-wide training.
  • Contribute to clinical team updates, ensuring the Occupational Health manual remains current and relevant.
  • Participate in professional development, sharing updates on clinical innovations with the team.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in Occupational Health (Part 3 of NMC Register) or working towards this with evidence of professional development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in conducting medicals, surveillance assessments (audiometry, spirometry, skin assessment, HAVS, safety-critical medicals), and case management assessments.
  • Desirable: Qualification in Hand Arm Vibration and experience in drug and alcohol testing using chain of custody protocols.
  • Ability to produce clear, concise reports for managers.
  • Capability to collaborate effectively with HR, health and safety professionals, and occupational health partners.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to identify key health issues and develop solutions.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and escalate complex cases to the clinical governance team when necessary.
  • Willingness to travel between sites as required.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
